FACING THE FACTS

From the April 1963 issue of The Christian Science Journal

We are often advised to face the facts, and the usual thought accompanying such advice is that the facts are devastatingly grim! But when we understand the true sense of man and the universe, "face the facts" has quite a different meaning. True facts are to be found in the Bible, in the Word of God, where over and over again these facts are lovingly and wisely explained and demonstrated. They come from sage and prophet, commoner and king, and are the result of spiritual revelation. They tell of the omnipresence and omnipotence of God, the integrity and flawlessness of God's workmanship, man, and the inevitability of the functioning of God's law.

True facts completely contradict the false belief that one has to face insurmountable obstacles of limitation and lack. Obstacles there are, but God has given man dominion. Understanding this truth, one can make a stepping-stone of achievement out of every obstacle.

God is good, and because God is good, good is inevitable, ever present, omnipotent. Christian Science affirms that there are no insurmountable obstacles to God, to good; there are no incurable diseases, no overpowering tragedies, no stone walls of hate and fear. God's law, accepted and utilized, enables one to surmount all these difficulties.
