I want, I said,
And sought to demonstrate abundant good.
I worked and prayed and hoped and tried to get—
And all I did was fret.
I want, I said,
Not knowing why it was I did not have.
But want is lack. I claimed my want a fact,
Then wondered why I lacked.
"I shall not want."
The Psalmist learned to trust the Shepherd's care.
With overflowing cup and fearless rest
His quiet heart was blessed.
What do I want?
I cannot want if I but know I have.
All good inheres in Love's complete design—
And all He has is mine.
