Jesus said (John 14:27): "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." True peace is government by divine Principle, God, and is obtained in human experience through the coming of the Christ to human consciousness, through the spiritual idea, which Isaiah referred to as "The Prince of Peace" (9:6).
Through the Comforter, which was promised by the Master and which our revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy, refers to as Divine Science, the Christian Scientist is learning how to put on the Mind of Christ and how to help a suffering world through prayer. Herein lies a great responsibility. Has he any further responsibility towards bringing salvation to the world? Yes, the earnest Christian Scientist is also a true patriot and a good citizen and willingly shoulders such responsibilities as are his along these lines.
Armageddon has begun, and confusion of thought, due to ignorance and to the competing claims of the human will, seems to be the order of the day. This state of affairs is aggravated by a continual attempt of impersonal evil to obscure vital issues and thus obviate right action, action that would otherwise uncover evil and bring about its destruction. On pages 96 and 97 of Science and Health, Mrs. Eddy writes: "During this final conflict, wicked minds will endeavor to find means by which to accomplish more evil; but those who discern Christian Science will hold crime in check. They will aid in the ejection of error. They will maintain law and order, and cheerfully await the certainty of ultimate perfection."
