"LEANING ON THE SUSTAINING INFINITE"

From the November 1964 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Here are the opening words of the Preface to the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy: "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings." Leaning confidently on this sustaining infinite, we awake each day knowing that whatever activity is ours to perform, we have divine authority for trusting in its perfect unfoldment.

We are grateful each day to rest assuredly on God's ever-present guidance. Let us realize as we begin each task that as the complete reflection of omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent Mind, we can lack neither the integrity nor the strength to carry out these assignments. This illuminating truth governs every activity of the day, whether we serve as a homemaker, a salesman, a mechanic, or a designer of bridges.

We are all grateful for the understanding of God's omnipresence, which is gained through a study of Christ Jesus' words and works and of the teachings of Christian Science. God is good; therefore good is omnipresent. In her book "No and Yes" Mrs. Eddy writes, "God's law is in three words, 'I am All;' and this perfect law is ever present to rebuke any claim of another law" (p. 30). Since God, good, is omnipresent and All, there is no reality to the belief in error expressed as disease, lack, inharmony, lust, or unintelligent activity. Where all space is filled with God, good, infinite Mind, all is under His divine control, incapable of error of commission or omission. The understanding of these truths excludes error from our experience.
