SPIRITUAL LOVING AND GIVING

From the February 1964 issue of The Christian Science Journal

WHEN the all-important question was put to Jesus (Matt. 22:36), "Master, which is the great commandment in the law?" he replied: "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself."

In order to obey these commandments, we should first seek through prayer and consecrated study to gain a clear concept of God. The Psalmist wrote (Ps. 147:5), "Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite."

Mrs. Eddy embraced this infinite understanding with the term Mind for God. She also discerned Him as Soul, Spirit, Life, Truth, Love, Principle. The significance of these seven terms for God will continually unfold to us in our search for spiritual understanding.
