THE Psalmist knew where the saving grace of God is to be found, and he sang: "I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth" (Ps. 121:1, 2). His song acknowledges God as creator, dwelling in His holy hill, yet available to men on the earth. How to reach God, Spirit, in His holy habitation is the problem. Christian Science shows that He is reached through our translation from material sense into spiritual sense, and this translation involves repentance, baptism, or purification, and living a Christly life.
It is evident from the life and works of Mrs. Eddy that she heeded the Psalmist's words, for she climbed the hill of holiness and discovered God's nature and His laws. To direct mankind to divine knowledge, she instructs (Science and Health, p. 241), "We should strive to reach the Horeb height where God is revealed; and the corner-stone of all spiritual building is purity."
On Mount Horeb, Moses received the Ten Commandments. Hence Horeb height implies the exalted thought where spiritual vision is gained, where God, the divine Mind, is seen by uplifted human consciousness. Only the pure in heart can gain the spiritual height. Understanding this, Jesus called the pure in heart "blessed" (Matt. 5:8).
