THERE is but one spiritual existence, —the Life of which corporeal sense can take no cognizance. The divine Principle of man speaks through immortal sense." Thus writes Mrs. Eddy on page 72 of the textbook, Science and Health, and she adds in the same paragraph, "A condition precedent to communion with Spirit is the gain of spiritual life."
The mission of Christ Jesus included the revealing of the spiritual reality of life, its divine origin, its indestructibility. He said on one occasion (John 10:10), "I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly." He proved through his earthly experience that there is no power that can stand against divine Love; that the life which God bestows is unchanging, ageless, the immortal consciousness of being. He illustrated in his own earthly life the fact that man is preexistent, coexistent, and coeternal with God. He stated further and unequivocally, "This is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent" (John 17:3). His purpose is wonderfully defined by our Leader in these words in the textbook (p. 26): "His mission was to reveal the Science of celestial being, to prove what God is and what He does for man."
To reveal to humanity the real status of man; to identify individual consciousness with the divine Mind as its origin, source, and ultimate; to admit no other consciousness and so to solve what appears to humanity as the problem of being, this is indeed "to reveal the Science of celestial being, to prove what God is and what He does for man." This is what Christ Jesus achieved; this is what Mrs. Eddy has given to this age through her own healing and through her writings.
