"OPEN THOU MINE EYES"

From the March 1964 issue of The Christian Science Journal

THE Psalmist prayed (Ps. 119:18), "Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law," and this humble prayer has continued through the centuries to lead all who would to glimpse the glory and power of God. The prayer acknowledges the need for spiritual awakening and describes the inevitable results of such awakening.

This is the prayer of the Christian Scientist. In her writings Mrs. Eddy makes this clear in statement after statement. For example, on page 417 of her book Science and Health, she states, "To the Christian Science healer, sickness is a dream from which the patient needs to be awakened."

Awakening from the dream of sickness, disorder, or disturbance is, then, an important part of Christian Science healing. The student of Science learns that fear, sin, lack, disease, anxiety, grief, hatred, disturbed human relationships, or any error are all illusions, suppositions, misconceptions—dreams from which he needs to be awakened.
