Christian Science was offered to me by a dear friend in 1938. I accepted it gratefully, and our four children were at once enrolled in the Sunday School. I have received many healings from Christian Science treatment. Some have been instantaneous, others have taken longer. While I am deeply grateful for every healing, I am still more grateful for a clearer understanding of God and of man's relationship to Him. This understanding redeems man from sin as well as sickness. I am grateful for the consecrated practitioners who have been so patient and generous with help and support when called upon.
During the Second World War, I was living in London, and my elder daughter, who was in the Women's Royal Naval Service, was in quarters nearby. One day she telephoned me to say she had been given a day off. The air raids had been incessant; so she was delighted at the opportunity of walking in the peace of the Surrey countryside and wished me to go with her. I had not told her that I was suffering from a badly poisoned foot and that for some days I had been unable to wear a shoe because of the swelling. I realized that if I told her I could only hop, she would stay at home with me; so I said nothing.
We made our plans; then I called the practitioner who was helping me and asked her how I could possibly manage to walk the next day.
