My first opportunity to know about Christian Science came when I was a child and an aunt offered me some copies of the Christian Science Sentinel to read. A nasal operation had left me in great discomfort, but since my parents were opposed to Science, I refused to look at the Sentinels.
I thought no more of this religion until I grew up and married, at which time a medical prognosis that I could never have children was disheartening. Osteopathic and other types of treatment did not remedy the condition. Also, I was suffering from chronic constipation.
After I married, I learned that my husband was deeply interested in Christian Science. In fact, he admitted that as a boy he had been healed in Science of a serious lung ailment. Weeping, I told him that I believed this religion was of the devil and that I wished him never to mention it again.
