Return to Genesis

From the May 1964 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Bewildered, frightened, bowed, is this the plight
of man who stood in beauty on that day
when God swept clouds of chaos all away
and gave that great command, "Let there be light"?
He then bestowed on man the royal right
to bear his Father's image and to sway
the lives of all the breathing things that play
mid sunlit trees or in deep ocean's night.

Dear Father-Mother God help us to see
the man of Thy creating in each other,
finding in primal innocence and bliss,
beyond the mask of mortal mockery,
our Father's son and the beloved brother
we knew in the prelusive Word of Genesis.
