Since I first became an earnest student...

From the May 1964 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Since I first became an earnest student of Christian Science years ago, many problems have been harmoniously worked out. Employment was found during the years of economic depression when the passing on of my husband necessitated my assuming the financial support of my two sons; and I have demonstrated, as Mrs. Eddy states in Science and Health, that both "the prophylactic and therapeutic (that is, the preventive and curative) arts belong emphatically to Christian Science, as would be readily seen, if psychology, or the Science of Spirit, God, was understood" (p. 369). I have experienced quick healing when occasion arose and have demonstrated health and freedom to work daily during the past twenty-five years; lost articles have been found, including a ring lost in ocean water five feet deep.

At one time my son and his family were en route on a thirteen-hundred-mile automobile trip to visit me. The day prior to their expected arrival I wakened early and found myself praying for my son. The truth of Mind's ever-alertness came forcibly to my thought, and I prayed, as I was led, to know that man is always governed by, directed by, and responsive to this Mind, God. After some time a flood of calm assurance pervaded my thought, and I again slept.

Later that day when my son and his family reached my home, they explained that their early arrival was due to their having driven straight through without stopping overnight. I remarked that I had wakened early at a certain time and been prompted to pray for them. My son and his wife exchanged glances, and then they told me that at just that time my son had wakened at the wheel to find himself driving east in a westbound lane of a highspeed turnpike. This demonstration of the availability of God's power to meet a human need makes me deeply grateful for God as I have come to know Him through the study of Christian Science.
