WORKING FOR A BETTER WORLD

From the May 1964 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christian Science teaches us to support all that is good in human existence and to work to overcome all that is evil. The basis of this work is Love, and the method is prayer. To be successful, work for a better world must be in accord with the Biblical statement of God's purpose of salvation for mankind (John 3:17), "God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved."

In accordance with the Bible teaching that God is Love and that man is created in God's image, we work through prayer for a better world by applying to human conditions the truth which magnifies good and exposes evil as nothing. The allness of divine Love and the perfection of Love's image, man, let into consciousness, show quickly that evil is unreal. Such prayer separates evil from individuals and enables us to attack the evil with Christlike love for men.

Those whose aim it is to destroy freedom in the world are very much in need of love. By enthroning hate, they are working for their own destruction. By seeking to destroy individual freedom, they face the certain destruction of their own false sense of identity.
