"GLORIFY God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's" (I Cor. 6:20). This counsel of Paul's begins the By-Law on "Testimonials" in the Manual of The Mother Church by Mrs. Eddy (Art. VIII, Sect. 24). Our Leader includes in this By-Law the following sentence: "Testimony in regard to the healing of the sick is highly important." To glorify God for all the good manifested in one's experience is the true motive for testifying at Wednesday testimony meetings in Christian Science churches.
Gratitude for good already received is a stepping-stone in each individual's progress. Mrs. Eddy had so much faith in the ability of her followers to demonstrate Christian Science that she provided for a period during each Wednesday meeting in which they could express their gratitude. What a privilege it is to have this time! It should be filled with praise to God for His blessings. It should be more difficult for a student of Christian Science to remain seated during the time set apart for the giving of testimonies than to rise and use the opportunity provided.
This opportunity is not for the purpose of self-glorification. It is to testify to evidences of God's love and of His healing and protecting power—to glorify Him. Jesus said, "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven" (Matt. 5:16). It was thus the Master let his light shine. When he raised the son of the widow of Nain from the dead, the people of the city "glorified God" (Luke 7:16). Glorifying our Father through testifying at Wednesday meetings to His omnipresent help is our duty and privilege.
