TRUE SUCCESS

From the August 1964 issue of The Christian Science Journal

IT is natural and right to want to be successful. But what constitutes success? Almost from childhood mortal thought would educate men to apply the accepted human yardsticks to success—money, position, popularity, power, influence, an abundance of material blessings. But even the devoted materialist each day sees harsh examples of the instability, the fleeting nature, of these criteria. Simple observation teaches him that money can be an insufferable burden, popularity a wearying nightmare, and power and influence corrosive and stultifying. Wherein, then, lie the ingredients of true success?

The Bible and the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, answer this question in scientific completeness and point the way to a successful career for any individual who is receptive to spiritual leadings. Success, including the enjoyment of rich and satisfying human blessings, will follow as the night the day, if the seeker is faithful to the teachings on this subject in these two great books.

Fundamental to any real understanding of true success is an awareness of what man really is. Christian Science teaches that man is the beloved son of God, Mind, Love. He is therefore immortal and spiritual, and he is not dependent in any way on material substance or quality of any kind. He possesses and reflects infinite goodness and abundance. He is unlimited by the factors proclaimed by the so-called mortal mind, such as material personality, age, education, the right friends, the wrong enemies. These are myths, as unreal as the mind that pretends to manufacture them.
