TO inject new life and lasting vigor into an economy and to bring true health and fitness to mind and body—subjects which have been much under discussion of late—men must have an understanding of the spiritual nature of man and his relationship to God. Mrs. Eddy makes this clear, for she states in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 15), "Nothing aside from the spiritualization—yea, the highest Christianization —of thought and desire, can give the true perception of God and divine Science, that results in health, happiness, and holiness."
A moral regeneration through the spiritualization of thought and life is the fundamental need if the fiber of humanity is to be strengthened today, for until it is understood that life is spiritual and not material, as Christian Science teaches, there will be continued emphasis on matter for salvation from the evils of mortal existence, an emphasis which is entirely misplaced. This Science reveals that life is spiritual because God, the creator, is Spirit, Life, Truth, and Love, the very Soul, Mind, and Principle of being, and man is God's reflection; hence man is spiritual and perfect, incapable of discord of any nature.
Christian Science repudiates completely the theory of life as a material existence dependent upon matter for health and harmony and explains that these desirable conditions eventuate as individuals exemplify in their lives the Christliness that Jesus manifested. He raised the sick and dying to vigor and life, fed multitudes in the face of lack of food, and showed the way to complete harmony by nullifying matter's claims to life and substance.
