Christian Science was first brought to my attention when I was about twelve. My cousin was visiting me from the East, and somehow the subject of heaven came up. He mentioned that it was not a place, but a state of mind. And he did say that Christian Science so taught. This thought stuck in my mind, although it was many years before I ever heard of this Science again.
I well remember the first Christian Science service I ever attended on a Sunday evening. The ushers stood there looking so dignified, and everything was so peaceful, so restful.
Years went by, and I did not look further into this religion. But one Wednesday evening after I was married, we drove past a Church of Christ, Scientist, and there were cars parked in all directions around it. My wife informed me that it was the regular Wednesday testimony meeting. To see such a large crowd for a prayer meeting astounded me. My interest was further aroused.
