I am unspeakably grateful for the many blessings I have received from the study and application of Christian Science. I was born and brought up in a home where this religion was practiced, and I had the joyous privilege of attending The Mother Church Sunday School as a boy. All my life Science has been a part of my consciousness, but during my late teens and early twenties it was somewhat pushed into the background. However, through certain experiences and many physical healings it soon came to the forefront, and I became increasingly a better Christian Scientist, eventually having the glorious experience of class instruction.
During the Second World War, I served for four years overseas in the European and Middle East areas. I can truthfully aver that Christian Science was my hourly protection and guidance. It led me into a position in which I was able to use my talents to the best of my ability, and in my association with others my religion was an active help for the benefit of many. Frequently I was under fire and bombardment, but this wonderful truth protected me and protected those around me.
More recently I had an experience which proved to me the thoroughness and exactness of this Science. I had a series of boils. The first of these appeared upon my elbow, and as this boil began to disappear, one broke out on my wrist. A dear and devoted practitioner was helping me; and although the evil seemed large and real, yet there was no pain or discomfort from either of the boils. However, when one broke out on the back of my hand I realized that I had more work to do. I was at the time surrounded by those who were not Christian Scientists but who loved me deeply and hence were apprehensive for my well-being. I felt that I must get by myself; and so, being able to be up and about, I drove my car to a nearby hotel where I was determined to remain in my room with my Science books and Concordances. I knew that there was a spiritual truth that would exactly meet my need of healing.
