I have had many beautiful healings in the thirty-three years in which I have been a student of Christian Science, but none has caused more gratitude than one I had in recent years, even though this was a slow healing. I was mowing the lawn when the mower hit a bed of what are known in this locality as fire ants. These ants are considered very poisonous. I was stung in many places on both legs.
I was not alert to handle the error; and by evening I had a very high temperature, and a feeling of numbness engulfed my body. Then these insect bites began to swell, and in about two days they were very deep and painful sores.
We were in the midst of house painting; and I felt the need to be active, so I continued with all my human activities. I was clerk of a Church of Christ, Scientist, and a Sunday School teacher. By constantly turning to God, I was even spared the embarrassment of the attention of others. I knew that my life was "hid with Christ in God" (Col. 3:3). No one ever seemed to notice my legs. At the end of about three months one leg healed.
