CHURCH IN ACTION

A star to steer by

From the December 1967 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I must go down to the seas again, to the
lonely sea and the sky,
And all I ask is a tall ship and a star
to steer her by.

But despite a revolution in communications and guidance systems, the sea can still be a lonely place, even for those who love it; and it is not only ships but sailing men who need a star to steer by.

On the California coast, Christian Scientists have been going down to the sea since 1912 to offer Christian Science literature to ships of all nations departing for far-flung ports. Last year the Harbor Literature Distribution Committee of the Churches of Christ, Scientist, of Southern California serviced nearly three thousand ships from thirty-three countries. Here are some fruits of their past work.
