This is a period of deeply probing research into material causes and scientific facts which bring continual excitement and many changes to human life. The flow of knowledge regarding the world of time, space, and matter in which we live appears endless. However, this period, which has brought much that is useful, was preceded by another form of research. This was the steadily persevering quest by Mrs. Eddy, who sought the unknown facts of Truth, God. After she had studied the Bible deeply for many years and had had a healing through the activity of spiritual law, she discovered the Science which Christ Jesus had demonstrated in his healing work. This Science reveals the true spiritual character of that which the natural sciences regard as matter.
After her discovery, Mrs. Eddy continued her deep investigation, working with and proving the practicality of the laws of Truth in demonstrating the allness of God. She saw that creation, including man, is wholly spiritual, perfect, and good and that healings would invariably follow the correct application of these newly discovered spiritual laws. This Science Mrs. Eddy appropriately named Christian Science, and she made it available for humanity through the textbook, Science and Health.
In this work our Leader used prayerful selectivity in her choice of words, frequently awaiting Mind's revelation of the precise word to" express best the desired meaning. Her patience in finding the clearest terms was unlimited; her love for God and her desire to do His will were so untiring that she revised Science and Health many times as her view of divine Science became clearer. The result is a book remarkable in its purity of expression.
