Testimonies of Healing

[Original in French]

Christian Science has been an ever-present...

From the December 1967 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christian Science has been an ever-present help to me in many ways—physical, moral, and financial. In expressing my gratitude, I should like to tell of a physical healing.

I was crossing the street in a legal way when I was struck from the rear by an automobile traveling at full speed. I suffered multiple contusions. I was put into the automobile which had hit me, and I had to wait for the usual formalities. The first reaction of the police was to want to take me to a hospital. In spite of the state I was in, I flatly refused to go to one and asked to be taken home. I had not lost consciousness, and I was saying to myself "the scientific statement of being," which is found on page 468 of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. The statement concludes in this way: "Spirit is God, and man is His image and likeness. Therefore man is not material; he is spiritual." The following statement by Mrs. Eddy was also clear in my thought (ibid., p. 419): "Meet every adverse circumstance as its master." I was so conscious of these truths that the police took me home.

This took place the day before my association meeting, and there was a practitioner from London, a friend of mine, in Paris. I telephoned her immediately. I am grateful for her effective work. The doctor from the insurance company of the person who had caused the accident came to see me; he required an X-ray picture to be taken. To his amazement I asked for a few days of rest before being moved for this formality. I was anxious not to interrupt the work which had been started. When I had it taken, the picture revealed that there had been a fracture but that the bones were knitting. The medical people told me, however, that I should have difficulty walking. I did not have recourse to any medical care; everything returned to normal, and never did I need a cane to walk with. I was very quickly able to take up my activities again. Since I did not accept the suggestion of having fallen from the arms of divine Love, I made no appeal to the justice of men to settle this affair, and everything resolved itself harmoniously.
