I shall always be grateful for a loving Christian family who taught me from early childhood to love God and to turn to Him for comfort and help in time of trouble. However, I was not satisfied with the contradictions which the Bible seemed to contain concerning the nature of God. When Christian Science was presented to me, I recognized this as the same truth which Christ Jesus taught, and every doubt concerning the Bible was dissolved upon my completion of the reading of Science and Health by our revered Leader. Viewed through the lens of Christian Science, the Bible grows more beautiful and helpful to me each day, and during these past thirteen years since I found this wonderful practical religion a whole new world has opened for me.
I am grateful for our Sunday Schools, which provide our young people with foundations of truth that can never be taken from them, as I am for all other church activities. My own son, who has attended Sunday School since he was two years of age, had an opportunity to apply the truths taught in Sunday School when he was attacked by a strange dog while making deliveries on his paper route one Friday. In the struggle to free himself from the animal, the boy fell into a deep ditch, injuring one foot very badly. With the help of another boy, who often assisted him on his route, my son returned home for a pair of crutches which were stored in our attic. He then finished delivering his papers.
That night I worked prayerfully with him, singing hymns from the Christian Science Hymnal and listening to many statements of truth from the Bible and Science and Health as recorded in the Children's Talking Book, which he owns and loves to listen to. However, there was great pain, and by morning I recognized the need for help from a practitioner. I was afraid of the opinion of other members of the family who felt that the child was being neglected because a doctor had not been called. The practitioner assured me that all was well and then asked, "Is this true of God?"
