"The illuminator of all"

From the March 1967 issue of The Christian Science Journal

God's first recorded command is, "Let there be light." Gen. 1:3; When speaking of the light referred to in this first chapter of the Bible, Mrs. Eddy writes, "This light is not from the sun nor from volcanic flames, but it is the revelation of Truth and of spiritual ideas." Science and Health, p. 504;

The revelation of Truth occurs and continues in human consciousness until the darkness and chaos of mortal thought vanish in the light of spiritual understanding. Christian Science declares that Truth is infinite, belonging to no particular period of history more than to any other or to any particular person or group, but to all. Moreover, we learn that in Science there is a spiritual idea for the correction of every human problem.

The ancient Israelites limited fitness to receive divine communications to the high priest, who had to be clad in the ephod bearing the breastplate with the Urim and Thummim, as the Lord had prescribed for Aaron, the first of the high priests. The people brought their problems to the high priest, who laid them before the Lord. When the answer was given by means of the Urim and Thummim, the high priest imparted the message to the people.
