Laughter in Heaven

From the March 1967 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Love is well reflected in a smile. It may be a smile of gratitude because Love is God, the limitless giver of good. It may be a smile of affection because man reflects Love lovingly. And it may be a smile of gladness or mirth because humor too can be an evidence of the presence of divine qualities, such as joy and selflessness.

Humor is a normal ingredient of joy; and joy, to a Christian Scientist, is part of the permanent background and frequent foreground of thought. Joy is not a matter of choice, nor is it conditional: there is never an if or a when about it, such as "I would be happy if . . ." or "I will be happy when. . . ." Rather is it: "I am happy because...."

Because of what? Because of the very nature of Love, God.
