Seeking God's Guidance

From the March 1967 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Many individuals faced with important decisions ask, "What shall I do?" There is only one really adequate reply, and that is, "Turn to God for direction." Individuals frequently seek human advice from Christian Science practitioners or from friends, and then perhaps recriminate when all does not turn out in the best possible way. Through such experiences we may learn the lesson that there is one source of wisdom, and that is the divine Mind.

Jesus refused to be put in the position of giving human advice. When one individual complained about his brother not sharing the inheritance and wanted to involve Jesus, the Master said, "Who made me a judge or a divider over you?" Luke 12:14; Jesus' whole attitude toward solving human problems was to turn to God in prayer and seek God's guidance. He said, "Your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him." Matt. 6:8;

No two individual problems are just alike. While we can learn from the experiences of others, our problems should be solved on the basis of God's direction. Soon or late each one will have to find out that God is Mind and that God is the Mind of man. One can come to this conclusion only as he turns to God in prayer and seeks the ideas that God is constantly supplying to all.
