A testimony of mine appeared in the Journal in 1953, and it is a joy to bear witness to the many beautiful proofs of God's love and care which I have experienced since that time. Probably the greatest single blessing has been the fruitful step of class instruction. Almost immediately after this experience problems of various kinds presented themselves, and the value of my spiritual education was proved.
For a number of years I had had a desire to resume my education, which had been interrupted. After class instruction in Christian Science, this desire became intensified. In Science and Health, Mrs. Eddy tells us (p. 1), "Desire is prayer; and no loss can occur from trusting God with our desires, that they may be moulded and exalted before they take form in words and in deeds." When I looked into available courses, I found only one open to me. This was in a subject which appeared to be uninteresting and unimportant. However, I was convinced that since this was what had unfolded, I should enroll. Before doing my homework each day, I made it a rule to do my Christian Science "homework" first.
The course which at first appeared difficult became interesting and easy to follow, and I passed with the highest possible grade. Within two months of my enrolling in this course, a new employment opportunity unfolded for me. It was in the office of an educational organization which was located across the street from the campus of a prominent midwestern university. This organization encouraged its personnel to take additional college work by paying for tuition and allowing time for study and examinations. I was enabled to take many courses, and the experience was harmonious and rewarding. It showed me that when we trustingly take one step at a time, the rest of the steps will unfold.
