Some years ago I had an experience that illustrated to me the physical effects of fearful, material thinking and the healing power of an understanding of Truth, correcting and destroying both the erroneous thinking and the physical consequences.
I became alarmed over a physical condition which was manifesting itself on my body. Although I was in good health otherwise, the condition called to mind a disease of which it was a symptom and engendered a great sense of fear which I could not overcome. Over a period, I lost considerable weight. Also, there was a sense of weakness, and I found I could not walk or rise from a sitting position naturally. All of this I recognized as the manifestation of fear, but I could not rise above it. This went on for a month or six weeks.
One evening I read this passage from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy (pp. 180, 181): "To reduce inflammation, dissolve a tumor, or cure organic disease, I have found divine Truth more potent than all lower remedies. And why not, since Mind, God, is the source and condition of all existence?"
