Matter Is Pictured Thought

From the January 1969 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Can you see thoughts with the naked eye? Of course you can. You are seeing them every waking moment. You may call them material things, but they are really objectified mortal thoughts. Mrs. Eddy made the revolutionary discovery that all matter, living or insentient, is really a mortally mental phenomenon. She states forth-rightly: "Mortal mind sees what it believes as certainly as it believes what it sees. It feels, hears, and sees its own thoughts."Science and Health, p. 86;

This is an earthshaking discovery, literally, for it is destined to disturb and alter the premises and conclusions of all human knowledge. Already this revolutionary concept has leavened human thought to the extent that physicists now assert that matter is really electrical energy and not the solid stuff it appears to be. In fact, it is generally accepted that the atom, of which all matter is constructed, is almost wholly empty space.

Although atomic physics is now being applied in many practical ways, its wider implications are being missed. Theoretically the physicist affirms that matter as solid stuff does not exist, but he fails to explain the perceivable presence of a three-dimensional material universe. What, then, are we looking at? Is it not obvious that mortal thought is filling in this sense picture of form, color, density, and weight?
