Justice Applied in Government

From the January 1969 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Justice is the foundation stone of a righteous government. Daniel Webster said of it: "Justice... is the greatest interest of man on earth. It is the ligament which holds civilized beings and civilized nations together."On Mr. Justice Story, Sept. 12, 1845: Its progress is traceable from earliest times in ever-expanding definitions of human rights and obligations.

The struggle to gain individual freedom under law has continued through the centuries. While there have been setbacks in this struggle, and, at times, progress has been slowed almost to a halt by despotic authorities, forward steps have never wholly ceased. No more inspiring record exists through the pages of history than this struggle.
