Church in Action

Harvest fields in Wales

From the October 1969 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It took several years for the members of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Llandudno, North Wales, to reach one of their goals, but they never gave up.

They had decided to establish a downtown Reading Room to replace the one located in the church edifice. A downtown Reading Room committee was formed, but the entire membership prayed about it. They didn't just leave it up to the committee.

Looking into possible main street sites, they found the rents for street level shops phenomenally high, quite out of reach. There were some low-cost rentals available, but these would have required a heavy ingoing purchase of a remaining lease and also of a store's leftover stock.
