From the October 1969 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Universal brotherhood is fundamental in the Church of Christ, Scientist. Our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, writes, "With one Father, even God, the whole family of man would be brethren; and with one Mind and that God, or good, the brotherhood of man would consist of Love and Truth, and have unity of Principle and spiritual power which constitute divine Science" (Science and Health, pp. 469, 470).

The Mother Church and its branches encircling the world include members from all the major racial divisions on this planet and from the widest social range. An applicant's eligibility for membership in The Mother Church is in no way affected by race, color, or social and economic standing. Branches that have excluded applicants on any such grounds should bear in thought that Christian Science is here to bless and heal the whole of humanity. In her poem "The New Century" Mrs. Eddy tells us (Poems, p. 22):

Tis writ on earth, on leaf and flower:
Love hath one race, one realm, one power.
