The fact that God is Mind can be proved by each individual when he turns to God for direction, decision, wisdom, and healing. The relationship of Mind and idea must be acknowledged, and the directness of this relationship must be practiced. Too often we are tempted to lean on others, seek human advice, follow prescribed methods or material modes. Independent thinking might be defined as original reflection coming direct from divine Mind.
The revelation that came to Moses in the form of "I AM THAT I AM" Ex 3:14; evidently brought to him a keen sense of God as Mind, and it unfolded his ability to lead the children of Israel out of Egypt. He could not depend upon others for direction. There was no outlined course to follow, no well-worn trail. The demands of the wilderness made him turn to God constantly for the intelligence needed. This necessity became a means of grace, for it developed his understanding of God as the one and only Mind.
God is the Mind of man. As this fact is understood and practiced, it enables one to be more individual in his expression and increasingly independent of mortal influence. It enables one to be original in his outlook and in his ability to demonstrate God's goodness and power. It helps to establish protection from interference, from aggressive mental suggestion, and from mental malpractice. Mrs. Eddy says, "He who refuses to be influenced by any but the divine Mind, commits his way to God, and rises superior to suggestions from an evil source." Miscellaneous Writings, p. 113;
