What is required of one who wishes to write religious articles for Christian Science publications? Searching for a fuller comprehension of God as All and man as His perfect image, or idea, will aid the aspiring writer. It is essential first to understand that God—Love, Spirit, Soul, Principle—is the only Mind and author and that man is His reflection. As he identifies himself as God's image, the writer realizes he has the capacity to express, by reflection, all the divine attributes. Specific God-derived qualities evident in good writing include order, balance, accuracy, clarity, humility, inspiration, individuality, and completeness.
To hold the reader's interest from start to finish and avoid confusing him, the topic must be presented in proper order and balance. In varying arrangements a discussion can declare pertinent truths regarding one specific point, can handle, make void, particular errors associated with this same subject, and can show the practical, healing effect gained from applying spiritual facts. The conclusion can reaffirm the main point, protecting it from the belief of reversal. A Mother Church member who has enough understanding of Christian Science to treat himself or another by applying pertinent spiritual truths should be able to write a convincing, healing article.
Unerring Mind continually imparts accurate information. The student of Christian Science learns that he receives correct information when he shuts out material sense impressions and lets the Christ, Truth, into his consciousness. Practicing this, instead of depending on human knowledge, he gains accuracy in his work. Our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, tells us how to do this in the textbook Science and Health She directs, "Wait patiently for divine Love to move upon the waters of mortal mind, and form the perfect concept."
