"Conscious worth"

From the November 1969 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In her Message to The Mother Church for 1902 Mrs. Eddy makes this statement: "Happiness consists in being and in doing good; only what God gives, and what we give ourselves and others through His tenure, confers happiness: conscious worth satisfies the hungry heart, and nothing else can."'02., p. 17;

"Conscious worth" in Christian Science is entirely different from egotism. Only spiritual dullness mistakes the one for the other, as when the persecutors of Christ Jesus cried out to Pilate, "Crucify him, crucify him." John 19:6; They explained their awful demand by adding, "We have a law, and by our law he ought to die, because he made himself the Son of God."

We can achieve a measure of the "conscious worth" our Master entertained about his mission and person as we learn that God is the Father of all and the source of all good. It is then that we turn to Him for the intelligence and love that enable us to accomplish unselfish, Christian goals.
