The Cycle of Abundance

From the November 1969 issue of The Christian Science Journal

What is more majestic than the rhythm of the universe! The stately progression of the planets has for centuries called forth the admiration of astronomers, philosophers, poets, physicists, and musicians. Many have seen in it the supreme manifestation of universal order, harmoniously expressed.

The Psalmist, addressing God, exclaimed, "When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; what is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?" Ps. 8:3, 4;

However, we need not feel insignificant in the presence of this august spectacle. Christian Science makes clear that what we see is at best but a symbol of the vast, harmonious functioning of the spiritual universe to which we, as children of God, belong. Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, assures us in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, "The divine Mind maintains all identities, from a blade of grass to a star, as distinct and eternal."Science and Health, P. 70; And each individual man, woman, or child is one of those identities. Each of us has his particular place in this magnificent whole, a place that cannot be usurped. Not one can be displaced from his proper niche in this universal scheme of progressive unfoldment.
