I am a second generation Christian Scientist. My mother came to this religion after being raised as a delicate child and suffering almost to the point of death as the result of a blood clot at the time of my brother's birth. She was healed and became a very staunch Christian Scientist. She was a wonderful example to me of how to live a more abundant life through the study and application of Science.
I enjoyed the benefits of a Christian Science home, experiencing its blessings of protection in the case of injuries and in forestalling diseases commonly attributed to childhood. I was healed of earaches as a child, and my brother was healed of a rheumatic illness. It seems incredible, therefore, that I could fall into the trap of believing I could work successfully with both Mind and matter. But during college days I became fascinated with the pleasures of Egypt and the wonderful strides of modern physical science, and so turned to seeking material success and personal adulation and popularity.
After the many vicissitudes that this type of thinking brought about I was led to marry one who had also had Christian Science training. But I still had many lessons to learn as I continued to try to blend Christian Science and materialistic living, even though my patient husband encouraged me to relinquish many of these foolish beliefs.
