In a former testimony published in 1959, I shared some very remarkable healings accomplished through the study and application of Christian Science and the help of Christian Science practitioners. At this time, I would like to express gratitude for two experiences from which I have learned valuable lessons.
One taught me the importance of obedience and the need to turn away from the material picture. When I was living on a ranch in Florida, some of the poisonous spray I was using got into the plastic boots I was wearing for protection, and my ankle was badly burned. Instead of yielding to the truth I was declaring, this condition continued to worsen until finally I asked for help from a Christian Science practitioner. Still it did not yield to Christian Science treatment.
One day it was necessary for me to drive some distance and spend the night away from home. This I dreaded because the sore required a dressing. I called the practitioner before I left and in the course of conversation mentioned that the place affected was so aggravated and covered such an area that I was concerned as to how this could possibly fill in with new flesh. She was quite positive in correcting me, and asked how I could give such a vivid description and if I was looking at matter. My excuse was that I could not change the bandage without looking. But I resolved there and then to be obedient. The practitioner gave me Hymn No. 139 in the Christian Science Hymnal to ponder as I rode along, and I truly rode "with Love along the way."
