My maternal grandmother, after years of search for a cure for heart trouble, was finally told by the physicians that they could do nothing more for her. A friend took her to see a Christian Science practitioner, and she was instantaneously healed. Shortly after her healing, she had class instruction and very soon became a Christian Science practitioner.
This healing occurred when I was just a baby, in the early 1900's. My mother then took up the study of Christian Science. Soon afterward our family moved to Montana, and my brothers and I spent our childhood days on a ranch, far from a church or from other Christian Scientists. I feel a deep sense of gratitude for having grown up in a home free from fear and uncertainty. We lived quite an isolated life, but my mother continued her study, with help from my grandmother through correspondence. We children experienced many healings.
During high school days I had the privilege of spending a year with my grandmother. I had my first opportunity to attend church and Sunday School, which I dearly loved.
