"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths" (Prov. 3:5, 6). Through the years I have lived with this specific truth and wish to tell how God directed my path.
A great desire to attend every Christian Science lecture in my community was the forerunner of my entering the Peace Corps. I seemed to hunger for Truth and drove miles to hear a lecture. Nothing stood in the way. Then the opportunity came to join the Peace Corps, and I did so. I was sent to Barbados, a tiny island in the West Indies. All through training I had prayed and thanked God that my place was already established in divine Mind. My only obligation was to follow where He would lead me.
There were many problems to be met, and the Bajan language, as it is called, was difficult to understand. I learned to listen very carefully and to shut out unnecessary distractions. Because I wanted to help the people in that country, I had to put aside self-interest and ask God to show me what He wanted me to do.
