It is a great day for a new student of Christian Science when he joins a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, for the first time. It is a great day for the membership. The new member is usually warmly welcomed, greeted with smiles and handshakes. His steps are often buoyant with the inspiration of recent healing, his eyes bright with the expectation of further progress in understanding and demonstrating divine Truth in unity with fellow church members. The atmosphere is one of mutual love and rejoicing.
A year passes, and the neophyte has to some extent found his feet. He understands the democratic procedure of church government better than he did, and his fresh approach brings life and vigor into the day-to-day operation of the church activities as he begins to contribute proposals to reform them and extend their outreach. His enthusiasm for the truth is a delight to his more mature fellow members.
Or is it?
