New Energy

From the November 1971 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In this fast moving world every day calls for new energy, new strength, new initiative. Consulting the material senses, one may cry out, How can I go on? My energy fails, my strength is gone. But what is telling us this? Not Truth, but error, the error of believing that man is a mortal, that he derives his strength from matter, and that his life is limited by time and physicality. The man of God's creating is never the victim of overexertion or pressure.

Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, says in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, "Let us feel the divine energy of Spirit, bringing us into newness of life and recognizing no mortal nor material power as able to destroy."Science and Health, p. 249;

What is this energy? One definition of energy is "strength of expression." As God's expression of Himself, man exhibits the vitality, strength, and certainty of Spirit, and these qualities are spiritual, not material. Another definition is "inherent power; capacity of acting." As God's reflection, man is spiritual; he manifests God's capacity of acting. He is not a finite mortal, paralyzed by inadequacy and indecision; he is never helpless before any situation, never the victim of circumstance, never the football of chance.
