Christ Jesus was approachable. Crowds thronged him wherever he went. He was a radiant reflection of divine Love, God; and this reflected love draws and heals. Because, in reality, we are God's image and likeness, we may know that we too are approachable.
In the proportion that we express the nature of divine Love, others see us as approachable, and we are able to uplift, heal, and bless. Christian Scientists must be careful not to keep their understanding of Love in the realm of the abstract. Mrs. Eddy once wrote in a letter, "Demonstration is the whole of Christian Science, nothing else proves it, nothing else will save it and continue it with us." Twelve Years with Mary Baker Eddy by Irving C. Tomlinson, p. 46; Let each one of us pray to be the kind of Christian Scientist Mrs. Eddy intended us to be—to follow her example and the Master in demonstrating Love's approachability so that we will comfort, heal, and save. To think about love is not enough. One must demonstrate it both in thought and action.
As each individual actually demonstrates love—as he is taught to do in Science— our churches will literally draw multitudes to them. Fear is dispelled by love; therefore when each member truly radiates divine Love, the stranger cannot fear to approach our church.
