An Inseparable Relationship

From the March 1971 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Where must we go to find God? Not very far. In fact, no distance at all, because God and man are one in being.

The fact of this inseparable relationship is the priceless gift that Christian Science is bringing to this age. It was demonstrated in a measure by the primitive Christian Church and then largely lost as creeping materialism gradually dulled the spiritual perception of those who professed to follow Christ. Thanks to Mrs. Eddy, the understanding and demonstration of the oneness, or unity, of God and man are here to stay. She has stated and proved scientifically the inseparability of divine Principle and idea, Mind and its thoughts. In Science and Health she tells us: "The offspring of God start not from matter or ephemeral dust. They are in and of Spirit, divine Mind, and so forever continue."Science and Health, p. 267;

To impart a clearer sense of man's relationship to God, Mrs. Eddy was led to use the term "reflection." She describes man as the reflection of his Maker. The value and truth of this concept become more and more apparent as we learn the lesson of humility and yield to the divine will. We remember how completely dependent for existence and activity is a reflection upon its original, and we then apply this to ourselves. This is the pathway to freedom and spiritual power. Paul understood and proved this, for he wrote to the Corinthian church, "We all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord."II Cor. 3:18;
