"The stones would ... cry out"

From the March 1971 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christ Jesus' followers who appreciated his teaching could not restrain themselves; they rejoiced and praised God with a loud voice for the great works they had seen the Master do, so much so that the Pharisees complained that they should be rebuked. We read in Luke that Jesus answered, "I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out."Luke 19:40;

There were others, however, who failed to value the Christ message. In one of his parables Jesus used as an analogy the story of the invited guests who ignored an invitation to a wedding dinner. Because of this, guests were gathered in from the streets. But there lingers a thought—a sadness that the ones who declined missed so much.

Which are we? Those who miss much by refusing the satisfying meal, reluctant to be involved in the great healing movement of Truth? Or are we of those who have been so touched by the Christ influence that they must be actively occupied in helping to work out the solution of world problems through divine Science? Do we feel the spirit of Truth so strongly that we cannot bear to withhold our small part? Do we feel as if the very stones would cry out if we were silent?
