Woman's Inalienable Right

From the March 1971 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Throughout human history religious and social systems, traditions, and national customs have conspired, and still do conspire, to deprive many women of their freedom of expression and usefulness. As a consequence, the world is to some extent deprived of the benefit of the full manifestation of God's spiritual qualities. Yet, the Bible tells us, both "male and female created he them,"Gen. 1:27; showing that both masculine and feminine aspects of creation are equally important.

Christian Science maintains that God is the one Parent, the Father-Mother of the infinite, spiritual universe, and explains that creation consists of spiritual ideas, which reflect the qualities of divine Principle. Mrs. Eddy writes in Science and Health: "There is but one creator and one creation. This creation consists of the unfolding of spiritual ideas and their identities, which are embraced in the infinite Mind and forever reflected. These ideas range from the infinitesimal to infinity, and the highest ideas are the sons and daughters of God."Science and Health, pp. 502, 503;

God's sons and daughters reflect all the qualities of divine being, the feminine aspects of His nature as well as the masculine. The expression of both aspects is necessary to the full manifestation of His infinitely glorious being, and under spiritual law all individuals have equal freedom to express the complete identities that He has created them to display.
