When faced with some adverse condition, we might think that here is something to get rid of. But actually, in order to get rid of it, we need to find that there is no real adverse condition in the first place, that there never was a change from the harmony of being because the harmony of God's goodness is infinite and can have no opposite. Our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, writes, "The Scriptures give the keynote of Christian Science from Genesis to Revelation, and this is the prolonged tone: 'For the Lord He is God, and there is none beside Him.'"Miscellaneous Writings, p. 366; One of the many Bible passages that give this "keynote of Christian Science" is, "Know therefore this day, and consider it in thine heart, that the Lord he is God in heaven above, and upon the earth beneath: there is none else."Deut. 4:39;
To understand the absolute allness of God's goodness, we need to be willing to accept the fact that there is nothing else beside Him, nothing unlike the supreme harmony of His reality. This is the truth that the Master, Christ Jesus, proved, the truth that makes us free. Because God is All-in-all, true existence is unalterably perfect.
This means that God is the only Mind, Life, substance, and action there is. Just to say this is not enough; we need to go further and see what we mean by it. Our concept of allness must have no restrictions, no exceptions, no reservations. There must be no vestige of belief in an unlikeness of God. Every word that clarifies God to us, every synonym, must lead us to see the completeness of God and His manifestations and the total preclusion of anything different. Then we will realize that the supremacy of Spirit implies not the slightest belief in the reality of matter, that Soul as the only true consciousness means the complete nothingness of material sense and its world of error.
