I had been in a condition of invalidism for more than four years due to a disease of the spinal column called tuberculosis of the bones. I suffered much pain from this disease when I attempted to stand. This forced me to remain in bed almost all the time. After exhausting all medical means, including going to another city where those means were considered more efficient, I still found nothing to ease the suffering. I tried varied doctrines, including hypnotism, without obtaining improvement.
One day when I was in this condition of despair, a friend came to my home accompanied by a Christian Science couple who talked about this religion. They left some literature with me, which I studied. Next, I began attending the Wednesday testimony meetings and the Sunday services of this denomination, which awakened a lively interest within me. In a short while, with the prayerful treatment of a Christian Scientist, I was in condition to return to work again and have been at it during the eighteen years since. Christian Science healed me, new horizons opened for me, and the consciousness of life in God strengthened me more and more. Since then I have had many proofs of the unreality of the testimony of the physical senses, thanks to the wonderful understanding that Mary Baker Eddy gives us of God and spiritual man in the textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures.
On one occasion, when I was handling a jar of nitric acid, the liquid accidentally splashed in my eyes. I was again able to make use of this scientific system of Christ-healing.
