Several years ago I had a very enlightening experience. It helped me to meet the trying situation of noise pollution.
I became aware that I had lost my hearing. I could not hear the doorbell, the ringing of the telephone, or persons talking in a normal voice. Practically all sense of sound seemed obliterated, and I found myself reduced to watching people's lips to get an idea of what they were talking about, or asking them to repeat more and more loudly what they were saying. I was frightened.
