The Gospel of John records events of the day following the stilling of the storm by Jesus as he and his disciples crossed the Sea of Galilee to its western shore.
The crowds who had been fed had seen the disciples sail out, unaccompanied by Jesus. Nevertheless they set out to find him. A number of small boats, which had perhaps been loosed from their moorings in Tiberias by the rough west wind of the night before, furnished transportation to Capernaum, where to their surprise they found Jesus (see John 6:22–25).
The Nazarene readily discerned the motive behind their apparent interest, and proceeded to deliver—in the synagogue (see verse 59)—his masterful discourse on the bread of life and true discipleship.
